Burning the Candle at both ends...

Posted on Sep 20th, 2009 by MarleMac : Nexus MarleMac
We've been in our local town for 10 years...and we're celebrating

We started to prepare for this Martial Arts event early this year already, but it is reaching almost fever point now, just a month away!

The thought behind it was to present our students with an opportunity to experience intense pressure, and as we are too small a system to have competitions as such, we decided to change the whole concept and lift the festival to a showcase of what we're about. Our students are all now at an appropriately advanced level to show their skills to friends and family and other students and our other colleagues.

Because we are a full martial arts system, incorporating the health aspects as well, and not just a fighting system, we are not a full contact system (too dangerous as what we do is VERY effective!). We have combined the essence of Tai Chi Chuan with  Japanese Karate and Kobudo (traditional weapons) and are associated with other similar minded martial artist colleagues around  South Africa. Everything we do is based with health principles in mind, so posture, breathing and the integration of body, mind, emotion and spirit is the basis for everything we do. Not a macho system, in other words! The integration of the Yin of Tai Chi - soft power - takes it  to the next level, where the flow of energy to achieve the desired effect is paramount, and not physical strength. Physicality disappears with age, so you have to have that extra dimension to achieve "the unbendable arm", hence the name of our system, the Inner Dimension.

Soooo....besides running a three pronged business that includes martial arts classes, Natural Health Treatments, a full Health Shop with full advisory assistance to clients, I have also been doing all the design work for the tickets, programme, posters and so on, as well as co-ordinating demonstrations for our junior karate students ass well as my own black belt demonstration and helping with all the others...whew!

That's the real reason for my long absence from here and online in general (besides the fact that my modem is broken and I'm borrowing a friend's!)

...burning the candlle at both ends...definitely! I actually think I've broken it in half a couple of times and started burning those ends too!!!!

But it's going to be worth it!

Something like this has never been done in South Africa as far as I'm aware. It has always been competitions with some demonstrations in between. We're putting on a show of about 2½ to 3 hours of JUST demonstrations, some of which are going to be of extremely high level, as my husband and some of our colleagues have already given international quality demonstrations at previous international events! Really something to be looking forward to!

A really classy affair too! By invitation only to friends and family...

So think of me when I'm burning the midnight oil, trying to stay ahead with everything else!

Have an astounding moment, right now! and a great life!

                      Enjoy every moment!

Past Lives, Present Challenges

Posted on Mar 12th, 2009 by MarleMac : Nexus MarleMac
Squidoo_logo
I have recently been forced to cut down on my explorations on the internet, due to the fact that it chomps a lot of bandwidth - and I'm limited in bandwidth (you have to still pay for it in South Africa). So my online adventures have to pay for themselves...and my writing (this has always been my dream anyway!)
So the challenge at the moment is to earn money online...
...hence my new education on Squidoo!

If you want to see what I've been up to look up my lens (Squidoo's name for a webpage) on my Spirituality Passion and the enhanced Mirrors and Illusions! You can add so many things into your page on Squidoo, it's an exciting platform for linking all your stuff together and makes finding things that much easier!

I will still be blogging my journey here on Gaia and will hopefully direct many more new members this way (one has already joined and blogged!), and once I have organised a no-cap bandwidth, I'll be here more often!

Technology has been a HUGE part of some of my past lifetimes (on other planets, obviously!) and I can even remember linking telepathically to huge networks of computers and spaceships, so I'm sure I should get the hang of this...

On Surrendering…and Re-Charging my Batteries

Posted on Feb 18th, 2009 by MarleMac : Nexus MarleMac

You might have noticed that I’ve been absent from Gaia (…and the rest of the internet, for that matter!) for quite a while!

The reason…

                                                Flat Batteries!

…and plain stubborness!

Having started a retail business – our health shop (Yay!), knowing not what I’ve let myself in for…work, work, work, work, work! after hours, all hours, for the last two years…and integrating it into an already busy business, took its toll. I also got tick bite fever at the beginning of last year that put me just about flat on my back for a month – no work, no earning! Yikes!

…and I’m working with my husband…and living with him! Yikes! Just the two of us (with a teenage son in there somewhere as well)!

But wait! There’s always light at the end of the tunnel:

…thanks to Laura Doyle’s book, “The Surrendered Wife”, especially the chapters on “Take care of yourself first” !!!

…let me repeat that:

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST!

                                 TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST!

                                          TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST!

                                                             TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST!

If you’re strong willed like me (Scorpio, Yang, etc…), you would be used to doing everything yourself, moaning like hell (sometimes) but doing it anyway (‘cause you CAN!)

This is where the surrendering bit comes in…

If you can do everything, then where does this leave your man…what can he do that makes him feel like a man, if he can’t look after you, or feel like he is? (We’ll leave the male ego for another day…besides, I might have a bigger one, being very yang…)

Maybe, just maybe, instead of telling him what to do all the time, or doing it anyway (‘cause he’s ignoring you, right?) you can

  • avoid setting up a negative expectation. Consider the words you use very carefully. Treat him as though he is punctual, patient, tidy or successful and he will rise to meet your expectations, because how you see him influences how he sees himself!
  • express your desires. But make sure you are describing an end-result, not telling him how to do it!
  • resist taking the bait. Rather have scars on your tongue, chomp down hard! count to 10, 100 or whistle, but don’t give your opinion when he asks, he’d rather have your blessings than your opinion  - he’s the cool guy you dated that can do anything, right? Right! He’s THE MAN! And DON’T do anything for him that is HIS RESPONSIBILITY! RESIST! He can do it, he’s a GREAT GUY! Resist arguing…it’s his problem if he snaps or whines, don’t make it YOURS!
  • Listen for the Heart Message. It’s never about what you think. Say “I hear you” and LISTEN. Most men find it difficult to express their emotions.  I.e. “No matter what I do around here, it’s never enough for you?” actually means “I hope you appreciate me. I want you to notice what I do.” etc….

…and all of this is MUCH EASIER if

YOU’RE NOT TIRED, FRIED and FRAZZLED!

…which brings us to Taking Care of Yourself First!!!

When you find yourself losing patience with and interest in your husband (or kids, or co-workers), check to see if you’ve been neglecting your self-care.

Make one list of 10 things that you like doing because they’re fun, and another one of 10 things you like doing because you feel good afterwards. Doing at least one or two things from each category every day is a good rule of thumb. Consciously doing 3 things a day to care for yourself is a powerful way to guard against depletion.

Whoopee!

I knew this, so I climbed onto the internet and did things I enjoyed, communicating, writing, reading, designing…

                             ...BURNOUT!!!!

I ACTUALLY needed REST, walking in Nature, SLEEPING, SLEEPING, SLEEPING…

So that’s what I did during the break between Xmas and New Year…I SLEPT! In Nature…under an overhang up a river valley, for 3 nights (got teased to go fetch water just to get out of the sleeping bag!)

...and then some more at home. No TV, no computers, no work, no nothing! I read a bit, and took a hint from my cat…turning over every now and then onto the other side!

…and now I’m BACK! Recharged, reloaded and attuned to the fact that doing too much of anything, is not good for you!

Balance…and a joyful spirit…

                        …and (some) me-time!

…and, something to remember

                                          Agree to Disagree!

Tagged...Thank you!!!

Posted on Nov 24th, 2008 by MarleMac : Nexus MarleMac
  • What are you thankful for today?

I’m thankful today for the fellowship I could share this weekend on our annual Natural Health Modality’s Seminar with a group of awesome people (including my husband, who gave me a stunning treatment!).

We’re a small group, but in sharing we became huge! We shared thoughts, our year in retrospect, our visions for the future, books, other resources, and the most amazing films! One of them was “Water”. It is the most awe-inspiring look at what makes us and our planet “tick”. It has changed my life…and for that I’m intensely grateful…the words Love and Gratitude took on a new meaning after seeing the shapes they generate in the memory to create the most beautiful crystals of water!!!

We’re mostly water, so the thoughts and vibrations we give ourselves everyday has a huge impact on a very physical level – our water!

  • What do you appreciate about the earth?

We are linked to it, so it sustains us…and for that I’m immensely grateful too! To be part of such a vast system of variety and beauty! WOW!!!

  • Who was the last person you said thank you to?

I say thank you to every being who crosses my path…it’s an ongoing process! Thank you Ralph / Waterheart for tagging me and giving me this opportunity to put my gratitude journal in a different format!

  • When was the last time someone thanked you?

A little while ago – for giving her a treatment to help her relax and throw off some life burdens – she was last seen on her way to have a cup of tea to love herself some more!!!

  • W hat is your favourite way to say thank you?

With my whole being – heart to heart….a smile, a hug…and sometimes a gift of loving touch…

I guess I‘ll go with the grapevine tag method!

The energies of my Birth Day

Posted on Nov 15th, 2008 by MarleMac : Nexus MarleMac

Today is the 45th celebration of the day of my birth!

Seeing as I've never had a birthday party, I decided to celebrate today - slightly differently - by having a look at the different energies of this day and of the day I was born. I also decided to start a gratitude journal today! So here goes!

I'm grateful for the opportunity to be alive today and to experience the bounty of Earth and her creatures and landscapes - the variety, colour and magnificence - her people, her weather, her moods and creativity!

I'm grateful for the swallows who chose to nest outside my bedroom window and share with me their chirps and joy in being alive!

I'm grateful for safety during the recent floods in the Western Cape, whilst friends suffered damage and losses.

I'm grateful for the magnificent card my son made for me - his best ever!

I'm grateful for the gift of a whole Saturday morning that I didn't have to work at the office/health shop - me time!

I'm grateful for an Abundance Diary for 2009!

I'm grateful for my cat, Little Bear Hugs' rubs on my nose first thing this morning!

...and the cup of coffee I got in bed from my hub and son!

The Turkey - Give-Away

The philosophy of Give-Away was practiced by many tribes. It is the deep and abiding recognition of the sacrifices of both self and others.  Turkey was the medicine of many saints and mystics. It is when you have trancended self and act and react on behalf of others. To aspire to help those who need help, out of the realization that all life is sacred, in acknowledgement that what you do for other you do for yourself.

The Great Spirit resides within all people. If Turkey medicine meanders into your life, you have been given a gift - it could be spiritual, material or even intellectual. It could be great or small, but it is never insignificant.

Mine was an invitation to visit a friend and join them for supper  - a gift of sharing...

Thank you! I hope you also enjoyed your day! Mine was magnificent!

Blessings and hugs.
Marlene

Love is letting go of FEAR...

Posted on Oct 4th, 2008 by MarleMac : Nexus MarleMac

My inspiration for the day...

I am responsible for what I see.
I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt.
I could see peace instead of THIS.
The past is over - it can touch me not.
This instant is the only time there is.
Today I will judge nothing that occurs.
I am not the victim of the world I see.
I can escape from the world I see by giving up attack thoughts.
I am determined to see things differently.
I am never upset for the reason I think.
Forgiveness is the key to happiness.

All that I give I give to myself.

M&I 1.8 Overload & the Illusion of Me…

Posted on Sep 23rd, 2008 by MarleMac : Nexus MarleMac

They say that the people around you reflect back to you who you are…

I’ve always been a goody two shoes, the perfect child, good behaviour, great student, level emotions, everybody liked me, yadeeyadeeya… Definitely in hiding! So guess what happened when I chose to go and live in a pressure cooker?!  I found out I wasn’t such a great person! People started to criticise me, didn’t like me, whoaw…!
I didn’t have a great memory, overloaded myself trying to do everything for everybody, started to make mistakes, couldn’t handle pressure…wheeee! What an eye opener!
I was never a great people person, being very introverted in groups, preferring one-on-one conversations and not liking to be in the spotlight. I was a great listener though and people usually came to me for help to solve problems (mostly with maths). But suddenly I withdrew totally and became very…morose, I think would describe it the best, thinking back!
I now had to deal with all the emotions that were bubbling up because the lid had been taken off. Geezz! I also realised that all the characters that have been floating around in my head  were not such great people, they all had serious problems, a lot of pain and heart sore and, I now knew, were parts of me from past lifetimes! Soldiers, Assassins, Abusers, Victims, Slaves…whoa!!! That’s a lot to deal with!
Luckily I had had a period of awareness when my third eye opened up  and I saw the connectedness of everything and the beauty surrounding me… and my guardian angels. I had help and support! Not just from them, but from the people around me, the teachers and students that helped, guided, nudged, knocked and generally showed me the way to the growth I needed to get through all of this! I had a mirror in my face all the time, nowhere to hide!
At a certain time in my life, I became aware of a yearning to pick up and go, to travel around, in a motorhome, and to write, gypsy style!
When I first got this idea, I was still at school, and ran away from home! I was on my way to the United States (typical teenager, my mother didn’t understand me, etc. etc.) was going to work my way across on a ship (from South Africa)! The friend I did it with though, got cold feet, and after a whole day of walking, across a mountain pass to the town on the other side (no hiking, too dangerous for girls), she called friends, they came to pick us up, and I got the hiding of my life from my frantic mother!!! I had bruises for a week!
The next urge came when I had just started working. I wanted to sell up and go, to follow the local circus to document and write their story. I loved The Circus! The tightrope, the horses, the acrobatics... I can remember doing the most amazing things on a horse’s back! I got as far as interviewing a clown…The Boswell Wilkie Circus has since almost disappeared, television having taken its toll… and Circe d’Soleil has taken it to the next level! (We won’t talk about what the Chinese are capable of!)
I’ve obviously been a gypsy! I didn’t go, but the next time the urge came up, I wanted to volunteer for Dolphin Watch to go study dolphins around the British Isles on a trimaran yacht. I’ve always been interested in dolphins, but that’s another story. My first choice for a career was marine biology, dolphins and whales, but there were not many job opportunities in South Africa, I would have had to go overseas. I ended up doing my third choice because there was money in computers and it seemed the best thing to do!
The last time I got itchy feet, I wanted to go travel around the United States in a motorhome, and write my novel I was busy with my martial art studies, but decided to apply for work on a ship in the Caribbean. I didn’t get in though, not the right qualifications and maybe too old! So I married my chief instructor instead! (Watch this space!) I still have a passion to travel in the US though, to take my son to Disneyworld…
The moral of the story here, as my friend Mr. KnowItAll commented on at one stage, was that I had a choice – to run away to go and look for myself, or to do it the hard way and find myself in whatever I’m doing…

I’m doing it the hard way… Growing at a rate of knots, but it is ROUGH, and I’ve obviously chosen a couple of past lifetime cycles to clear out - A healer in this lifetime – to balance all the killing I’ve done?

I’ve often wondered why I can remember all these parts of me, it can be very confusing to have feelings remnant from some or other other era!

So I decided to tackle them as they came up - one at a time…
                                …NOT a road for softies!
